EK Servicegroup has signed a licensing agreement with Intersport International Corporation (ICC) to build the brand’s presence in the UK and Ireland. The move will expand the German retail co-operative’s activities in the sportswear sector, said EK CEO Franz Josef Hasebrink in a press conference at the Spring edition of EK Live.

“This is another important step towards becoming a European platform for medium-sized companies. We are pleased that IIC has trusted us with this business,” said Franz-Josef Hasebrink.

EK Servicegroup is also responsible for the Intersport brand in the Netherlands through a Hoevelaken-based subsidiary.

The announcement followed the release of the group’s preliminary results for 2019. Sales for the period declined by about 5.5% to €2.3 billion, while the number of members decreased slightly from 2,061 to 2,005.

EK said the decline was partly due to the termination of an agreement with a Dutch furniture association, which had previously generated triple-digit income. Adjusted revenues were up 2.1% on the previous year.

“EK is a company in constant development, even in its 95th year. With a focus on the needs of end consumers and trading partners, we are constantly developing our digital services and our shop concepts. The positive development of many of our members shows us that we are on the right track,” said Hasebrink.
