DSquared2 names Sergio Azzolari as new CEO

Published
Apr 1, 2022

DSquared2 has appointed Sergio Azzolari to be its new CEO, the first time the house has had a full-time chief executive since 2017.

A highly experienced executive, Azzolari starts his new job on Friday, April 1. He joins the brand with the goal of driving DSquared2’s growth and reinforcing its omnichannel footprint with an increasingly global point of view, the Milan-based house stressed in a release.

Prior to arriving at DSquared2, the new CEO held major executive marketing and sales roles with Benetton, Missoni, Luxottica, Deckers and lately Tod’s Group, holding multiple roles in over three continents - Asia, the Americas and Europe - over the last 30 years. His most recent position was as general manager of Fay and Hogan.

The house last boasted a designated CEO back in September 2017, when Gianfranco Maccarrone quit DSquared2, after almost two decades holding the managerial reins at the house. Since then, the founding designers Dean and Dan Caten were the senior executives, working with a variety of senior consultants.

"We are very happy to welcome Sergio in our team, through his leadership we will make steady, strong strides together,” said the twin creators Dean and Dan Caten.

“Joining DSquared2 for its next chapter is an exciting opportunity to leverage the brand’s panache and uniqueness and I look forward to seeing it rise into its full potential,” said Azzolari.

No skinny runway model, Sergio Azzolari started his career with the Benetton Group, balancing his fashion and retail roles with his professional rugby commitments.

Founded in 1995, DSquared2 has grown to become one of Italy’s most dynamic fashion houses under the creative direction of Dean and Dan Caten, a svelte duo born in Toronto, Canada.

Their approach to fashion is a distinct mix of heritage Canadian iconography, modern Italian tailoring, playful sensuality and optimistic rock-n-roll chutzpah. The DSquared2 collections are produced in Italy, giving rise to the brand’s motto of “Born in Canada, Made in Italy”.
