Dr Martens to launch new Engineered Garments collab

Published
Sep 1, 2022

September 9 will see the launch of the latest Dr Martens collaboration with the British footwear brand linking up with Engineered Garments — the label created by Daiki Suzuki of Nepenthes — to create two new shoes handmade by DM’s cobblers in Northamptonshire.

Dr Martens

Suzuki — the vintage fan-cum-streetwear tastemaker — is known for admiring localised manufacturing traditions and the company said that’s what “naturally drew him to the British shoemakers and Dr Martens”.

An owner of vintage DM’s, he’s now reworked the classic 1461 shoe for his latest collab with the brand.

The new pieces include “an ‘overly engineered’ asymmetric lace system that stretches down one side of the shoe”. They’re made from black Smooth leather or milkshake Hi Suede, that are described as “two robust, versatile shades equally at home in a work or downtime uniform”.

The shoes feature signature DM’s markings, yellow welt stitching and twin scripted heel loops, alongside elevated details such as a silver-foiled sock liner and a secondary pair of two-tone laces to enable customisation.

The imagery launching with the shoes was shot on models chosen from among their makers, both from Dr Martens and from Nepenthes London.
