Donna Karan and Kenneth Cole unveil new footwear collaboration

Donna Karan and Kenneth Cole have put their heads together to come up with the perfect footwear solution this season.

The two New York design moguls have unveiled Urban Zen x Gentle Souls, a collaboration between Karan's Urban Zen line and Cole's Gentle Souls collection, designed to shed light on the artisans of Haiti.

The 10-piece series was brought to life with the help of local workshop owner Pascale Théard Créations, reports Vogue. They blend local leather-making traditions with the comfortable souls of Cole's shoes, and feature details such as fringing, embroidery and braided straps.

"We're bringing Haiti's rich artisan culture right to your soles," Kole announced via Instagram, unveiling the collection on Instagram, while Karan wrote: "Kenneth and I share our heart and soul with Haiti and now Soles."

For now, the collection is a limited-edition one, but the creatives aren't ruling out further collaborations in the future. "Hopefully it becomes an ongoing sustainable business," Cole told Vogue. "If nothing else, it shines a light on a culture that deserves to be celebrated. We're making these in very limited quantities to start. We want them to be a vehicle for telling the story of this community."

The launch is the latest big move for Cole, whose eponymous fashion brand announced earlier this year that it is moving into interiors with a new home decor collection set for release in September.
