Dolce & Gabbana unveil the urban pyjama

MILAN, Sept 25, 2008 (AFP) - Dolce & Gabbana have come up with a simple solution for a seamless transition between night and day for the busy urbanite: the city pyjama.

At their show on Thursday September 25th pyjama bottoms and kimonos in slinky satin in shades from sludgy wine dregs and navy to champagne rubbed shoulders with smart city tailored suits and jackets and frivolous lacy skirts.

Don the correct attire before you go to sleep and you need give it no further thought when you get up in the morning.

For the daring, they even suggested a total look of pyjama suit accessorised with high heels and statement handbag.

The other must-have accessory was the adorable puppy dog tucked under the arm and its own blue snakeskin carrier.

Reptiles were the big theme at Donatella Versace's show. Her snake women came all zipped up, so they could slough off their skins at whim. Zips snaked round their hips, down their backs or formed bows over bosoms and sketched out giant hearts on posteriors.

The trompe l'oeil textiles authentically captured the slithery quality of crocodiles and snakes, lending the models a disturbing reptilian air.

Canadian twins Dean and Dan Caten of DSquared staged their usual eye-popping presentation, which opened with 1980s icon French model Nadege leading a reprise of the TV hit series "Charlie's Angels".

Their femmes fatales posed lasciviously in white swimming costumes held up by little gilt chain straps, hostess dresses and evening gowns showing lots of cleavage and very low cut at the back.

Their three-piece suits in denim with jumbo flared pants accessorised with outsize sunglasses could have stepped straight off the film set of "Shaft".

They satisfied their fetish for disco gear with a silver lame suit, a trenchcoat in bronze and gold snakeskin and a rigid metal belt encrusted with gemstones cinching the waist of a white gown.

Karl Lagerfeld's collection for Fendi also focused on wide belts worn very tightly round the waist in white leather, parma violet, or flesh colour, with porthole insertions of matching fabric. Dresses came layered, sometimes devore or pierced with microscopic holes.
