Dolce & Gabbana return to official Milan calendar

Dolce & Gabbana has announced its return to the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI). Since 1998, when the Milan-based label left Italy's highest fashion authority due to disagreements with the organisation's leadership at the time, the brand has hosted its runway shows outside of the official fashion week calendar. Now the label has revealed that it will participate in the first ever Milano Digital Fashion Week with a show scheduled for 15 July.

In an interview with Corriere della Sera, designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana said that they will be organising a real runway show in the gardens of Humanitas University, a medical school whose research they support.

In light of the current circumstances, both the audience and the number of pieces on show will be limited, but the runway will be livestreamed via the online platform of the digital fashion week, which is being hosted by CNMI from 14 to 17 July. As for the presentation of the brand's Alta Moda couture collection, Dolce & Gabbana will release its own video.

"This is a great comeback by Dolce & Gabbana, as it strengthens our system and our association. It's happening at a difficult moment for fashion and is rooted in the strong bonds tying designers to our country. Now more than ever it's important to be united as a system and safeguard our unique industry," said CNMI  Carlo Capasa in a release.

The label, which never completely burned its bridges with the CNMI, notably participated in the organisation's recent "Italia, we are with you" initiative, which provided Italian defence forces with respirators and medical material during the Covid-19 pandemic.

"We've always loved Italy and all of its beauty and resources, and we have put our energy into supporting the country and making it known around the world. More than ever, fashion needs to be positive and united. At a strange time like this, we thought it was important and right to join forces," commented the two designers.
