Debenhams to close Cheltenham store

Published
Jan 6, 2016

As reported in October, British retail giant John Lewis is opening a new store in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire in 2017, in the former Beechwood shopping centre.

This means that rival Debenhams, which is located in the building, will have to relocate when its lease runs out at the end of next month.

Debenhams said: "Debenhams regrets to announce the closure of its Cheltenham store at the end of February 2016 due to its current lease expiry. We are disappointed to close the store and hope to continue to serve our customers online at Debenhams.com or at Debenhams stores in the local area including Gloucester, Bristol and our newly refurbished Birmingham store."

The John Lewis store will cover two floors and sell fashion, home and consumer electronics concepts.
