Debenhams appoints Smith International Director

Debenhams, the British department store retail chain, has named David Smith its new International Director.

Smith is currently the Managing Director, Asia Pacific, at beauty retailer The Body Shop. He will join Debenhams in May and report to CEO Michael Sharp. Debenhams says Smith brings "a wealth of international experience" from working at global apparel companies including Levi Strauss and the VF Corporation.

Smith will also join Debenhams' Executive Committee.

Michael Sharp said: “We are delighted to welcome David to Debenhams. His wide range of experience in growing International brands will play a key role in building our overseas presence”.

David Smith said: “I am very much looking forward to joining the Debenhams team. The opportunities for global growth are very exciting for Debenhams. I look forward to building on what is already a well-established international business."

Debenhams recently also tapped former Kingfisher CEO Sir Ian Cheshire to be its non-executive director and Chairman-elect, replacing Nigel Northridge.
