Dazed Beauty print launch features Kylie Jenner in tech-enabled cover image

Dazed is expending the digital Dazed Beauty content brand that it launched last September into print and has been unveiling a series of special covers for the debut edition (Issue Zero) that is due in a few weeks’ time.
Cover stars include Kate Moss, Travis Scott, Genesis P-Orridge and, in the most recent reveal, Kylie Jenner.
The publisher said the new hard copy will be “a physical version of our weird and wonderful virtual world. A visual artefact that seeks to redefine beauty for a new age, and showcase what the future - of beauty, of identity, of creativity - can really look like.”
It will feature “a host of digital whiz-kids, image-makers, academics, artists, and more” and will “blend fact, fiction, and fantasy with science and technology to create a new kind of reality.”
And with digital very much to fore, the covers have a large dose of technology added into them to create the images.
Jenner, for instance, has been photographed by Daniel Sannwald, with digital hair and make-up applied by AI program Beauty_GAN. The look was arrived at “after scanning over 17,000 of the most popular beauty images on social media and learning what ‘beauty’ looks like to us today, then creating a custom look for Kylie based on this data.”
Beauty_GAN is claimed to be the first algorithm of its kind, “trained to create its own beauty imagery based on what it sees on Instagram.”
The “limited edition” Issue Zero will be released in a tear-open sachet, “reminiscent of beauty samples in magazines.” It will be distributed in art book shops and sold online from the Dazed Beauty website.
