David Weston joins sneaker brand Vyn as sales chief

Published
May 23, 2023

Swiss sneaker brand Vyn has appointed David Weston as its Head of Sales. Based in London, he’s tasked with the job of “carefully positioning Vyn on the global footwear market”.

Vyn

The appointment of a sales chief is designed to help the brand “gain further momentum following [its] formal launch in October last year”.

The new arrival has a strong track record working across international business development and sales strategy with premium brands including Adidas Y-3, Alessandro Dell’Acqua, Nicholas Kirkwood, Creative Recreation, Moncler and Vera Wang. The company said he “brings his retail and sales strategy acumen and positioning savviness to the luxury sneaker brand”.

Weston said the concept appealed to him and “I saw something very special when I took a first look. The combination of a Swiss design approach and discipline and Italian manufacturing is of course very interesting to me”.

Based in both the UK and Switzerland, the brand’s products are designed in Britain with its showroom being in London’s Ladbroke Grove.

The innovative label comes with unique replaceable heel pieces and heel counters to help prolong the shoes’ lifespan.

Weston said this is part of what attracted him: “I am drawn to the ‘slow it all down’ approach that Vyn is expertly proposing and how the founders have prolonged the life expectancy of sneakers.

“This is a brilliant conversation and is one I am already enjoying with some new retail partners. I am not aware of any other sneaker that can be re-soled. Vyn hits that sweet spot somewhere between casual shoes and smart sneakers. I also have a blank canvas for a clear distribution and growth strategy.

“With the addition of two new shapes for AW24, the launch of women’s product in January in Paris and the delve into other ideas and materials it is going to be an excellent experience for all those who get involved.”

The company was founded by Swiss nationals Stefan Mathys and Catherine Meuter (who are based across London and Basel), both with over a decade experience in footwear with brands including Armani, Swims, Kurt Geiger and Harry’s of London.

Mathys said of the new sales head: “We are delighted to draw from David’s knowledge and feeling on how to expose Vyn to the right audience within the right context. After all Vyn is a new idea that invites you to pause, observe and take in the possibilities we create with the replaceable pieces. [It’s] the only sneaker you can wear as a personal statement and change yourself over its live span.”
