On Monday, German federal and regional authorities announced a new set of measures designed to slow the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic in the country. The measures imposed by Berlin include the closure of the majority of shops, of swimming pools, gyms, bars, discotheques and brothels, while public events and religious ceremonies have been suspended.

Food stores and markets, banks, pharmacies and home-delivery services will be able to function normally, while the majority of restaurants will stay open between 6 am and 6 pm, as the German federal government indicated in a press release.

There regulations are designed “to further limit social contact in public areas, in response to the Covid-19 epidemic in Germany.”

Stores that are allowed to stay open will have to strengthen hygiene measures and ensure entry to the premises is regulated, to avoid the formation of long queues, stated the press release.
