Two months after Britain voted to leave the European Union in an historic vote, consumer confidence improved to 109.8 in August, according to new research from YouGov.

This was up by 3.2 points from 106.6 in July, when the indicator experienced a sharp fall as an immediate consequence of the Brexit vote.

The YouGov/Cebr Consumer Confidence Index, which collects data from 6,000 interviews a month, also revealed that this month's results showed the largest monthly increase since February 2013.

The improvement adds to other positive economic indicators such as inflation and unemployment, both of which are currently low, indicating that UK consumers have yet to feel the effects from the EU vote.
