Condé Nast appoints Christiane Mack as chief content operations officer

Published
Feb 8, 2020

Condé Nast – the media group behind the likes of Vogue, Vanity Fair and GQ – has appointed 29-year company veteran Christiane Mack to the newly created role of chief content operations officer.

Condé Nast ownsVogue, Vanity Fair and GQ, among other titles - Twitter @UNFCCC

In her new role, Mack will head up Condé Nast’s recently established content operations group, which is formed from the company’s former global editorial operations teams and the U.S.-based talent, content integrity, production and editorial workflow groups, as well as CN Studios.

The global operations teams incorporated into the new group are responsible for providing digital content support for all of Condé Nast’s brands other than Vogue, as well as quality assurance and training support for all titles outside of the U.S.

They also supervise global syndication and editorial planning for all brands, including Vogue, and oversee the company’s ongoing editorial talent search development efforts across markets.

Mack will report to Condé Nast’s chief operating officer and president for international, Wolfgang Blau.

Mack first came to Condé Nast in 1991, serving as executive director for editorial and special projects at Vogue and Teen Vouge for 25 years. Since then she has also served as head of content strategy and operations, and most recently as chief content operations officer.

Over her almost three decades at the company, she has played a key role in launching new content partnerships, initiatives and events, while also working to streamline editorial processes and negotiate worldwide contributor agreements.

Prior to joining Condé Nast, Mack also held associate editor positions at Mirabella and Elle.

In an internal note, Blau highlighted the Carleton College graduate’s “institutional knowledge and solid understanding of both the creative process and cost management,” as well as her “uniquely international” background as qualities making her particularly suited to the responsibilities she will be taking on.

Mack will step into her new position in March 2020, following a transition period during which she will hand over her former responsibilities.

Her appointment comes on the heels of Sanjay Bhakta’s arrival at Condé Nast in January, when he was named the company’s chief product and technology officer, a newly created role.
