Common Objective launches sustainability consultancy

Common Objective has partnered with eight sustainability and retail specialists, including former M&S sustainability director Mike Barry and ex-Burberry VP of supply chain Vanessa Podmore, to launch a strategic consultancy practice, CO Consults.

Common Objective

Clare Lissaman, founder of Common Objective;  Andy Jackson, previously managing director of Debenhams Malaysia; Alessia Gotti, an expert in sustainable textile sourcing; traceability experts Victoria Waugh and Vanessa Brain; Tara St James, NY-based sustainable fashion adviser; and Rachel Fortune, SME sustainability specialist are also part of the task force.

Common Objective said the launch of CO was inspired by an awareness within the industry that brands are suffering from ‘sustainability paralysis’ - an inability to make meaningful progress and measurable impact on sustainability due to an absence of team-wide alignment on the priorities, a trackable roadmap, fear of margin erosion and concerns about corporate greenwashing.

Next year, the CO network will continue to expand globally, adding more expertise across all fashion sectors, including design, sourcing, garment technology, manufacturers large and small, mills, and artisan craftspeople from Australia, Europe, US, Asia and Africa.

“We believe in a model that prioritises sustainability goals alongside commercial targets”  says Tamsin Lejeune, CEO and founder of Common Objective.

“We’re bringing together a global network of experts to deliver world-leading and achievable sustainability solutions for fashion businesses. Our team has spent over 50 years on the factory floor, in the boardroom, chairing workshops, leading business transformation, advising and executing, with one single question in mind; How do fashion businesses continue to prosper by operating sustainably and ethically?”

Common Objective is an online platform matching fashion designers with the connections and resources they need to work in the most sustainable way. The initiative is backed by the likes of Vivienne Westwood and Roland Mouret.
