Colour key for summer 23 as M&S sees surging sales of hot tones

Published

Colour is proving a popular purchase for consumers this season and while wardrobe staples black, navy and neutrals remain the key colours for many, hotter shades are also getting a big vote of shopper confidence.

M&S

Pink dresses are key items and the next most popular colour choice at clothing giant M&S, it said on Thursday.

Searches for pink dresses have reached 14,200 in the past year, putting it in the top five searched-for colours, with M&S data showing that pink dresses are seeing the most growth compared to the perennially popular wardrobe-staple neutrals.

At the same time, Google searches for ‘pink and orange dress’ are up 150% in the last month with Google searches for ‘maximalism fashion’ up by 512% in the same period.

Lisa Illiss, head of design at M&S Womenswear, said that while pink dresses are the most popular among M&S shoppers at present, red, orange and turquoise dresses also appear in the top 20 colourways sold. And they’re actually coming out as more popular than navy, which is often seen as the main summer season neutral.

And across tailoring, bright blue and green colourways are proving to be top choices with customers.
