Collette Dinnigan drops signature lines

Published

Australian designer Collette Dinnigan is dropping the premium lines that shot her to fashion fame 24 years ago to spend more time with her family. Production for her eponymous bridal and eveningwear lines will cease by the end of the year, with her three standalone stores in Sydney, Melbourne and London to close in early 2014. The designer’s most recent presentation at Paris Fashion Week will be her last.

Dinnigan emphasised to the Australian Financial Review, which first reported her plans, that there were no financial reasons forcing the closures. The AFR reported that up to 50 staff would lose their jobs as a result.

The designer – who gave birth to her second child last November - will continue with diffusion line Collette by Collette Dinnigan and children’s line Collette Dinnigan Enfant, where only design work is needed. These two lines are manufactured offshore and not sold via standalone stores but via various department stores and online retailers including Neiman Marcus and Net-à-Porter.
