Clot teams up with Sacai and Nike for three-way collab
Although both Clot, led by co-founder Edison Chen, and Sacai, under the leadership of founder Chitose Abe, have worked with Nike in the past, this is the first time that the three brands have come together on a single project. The three-way collaboration has resulted in two new colorways of the Sacai exclusive Nike LD Waffle silhouette.
Both of the new models take inspiration from archival Clot colorways, with the first channeling the original Clot x Nike Air Max 1 “Kiss of Death” through a combination of vivid orange and deep red. The new colorway also features a translucent upper which harks back to the transparent toe panel seen in the original “Kiss of Death”. The design is finalized with a suede beige toe cap, an orange snakeskin Nike Swoosh, and a layered sole, double tongue and double laces, all incorporating the orange and red theme.
The second colorway takes its lead from the follow-up Air Max 1 “Kiss of Death” release in 2013, combining obsidian gray, navy and a translucent toe cap.
The footwear release is complemented by a ready-to-wear capsule designed for both men and women, featuring Sacai and Clot co-branding throughout. Pieces include a mods coat and track pants, available in black and khaki with contrasting seam tapes, as well as a graphic tee with side zippers, and varsity socks in a range of colors.
The release of the first orange colorway will be accompanied by a video campaign shot at Tokyo’s Hiroshige Museum. The film juxtaposes the bright sneakers with graceful floral timelapses, referencing the way in which Sacai and Clot deconstruct and reassemble different cultural registers.
The orange shoe will launch around the world on September 9 and will be available at Sacai locations and Clot’s Juice multi-brand stores. The gray colorway is slated to make its debut soon after. Both models will be featured at Clot x Sacai “The Home” pop-ups globally.
