Clarks Originals links with Salehe Bembury for Lugger collab

Footwear retailer Clarks has been busy beefing up its Originals brand with two collaborations over the last couple of months. The newest sees the brand teaming up with acclaimed designer Salehe Bembury to reinvent the brand’s Clarks Lugger under the Clarks Original banner.

The result is a reimagined vision of a much-loved archival Clarks style, says the retailer. Almost 40 years since it was first introduced, Bembury was tasked with bringing the Lugger back with a brand-new silhouette, crafted from tactile suede and neoprene.

Specifically, the Mud Moss Lugger fuses the American designer’s trademark motifs with the Wallabee Cup sole unit, “together with details that stay true to the very first Lugger”.

The new look is further energised with the Lugger’s asymmetric lacing and suede/neoprene quarters.

“Salehe’s trademark patterns enliven textured suede vamps and collars, Bembury while lightweight crepe-wrapped midsoles and cork footbeds up the comfort. Bembury-branded fobs and signature Clarks Originals FSC- certified crepe rubber soles perfectly complete this collaboration,” says Clarks.

Available in orange, green and classic taupe suedes, the collaboration launchers on Bembury’s beaspunge.com channel, clarks.co.uk, clarksusa.com, and from select Clarks stores and wholesale partners in the UK, US, Canada, China, France and Japan on 20 January.

Last month, Clarks Originals reunited with END for the second instalment of ‘Artisan Craft’, following on from its two-piece collection that debuted in 2020. The capsule represents a celebration of artisanal craft techniques and the individuals that uphold them, reworking the Wallabee brand with a heavy emphasis on details and materials.
