Christian Dior Parfums promotes TV series in partnership with Canneseries

The relationship between Christian Dior Parfums and film production is a longstanding one. Christian Dior Parfums, which has been present at the Cannes Film Festival for years, has also been supporting the event that the city dedicates to television series since its last edition. From April 1 to 6, the international Canneseries festival held its fifth edition and counted on the LVMH Group-owned brand to bestow two of the major awards at the closing ceremony.

'Audrey's Back' won the Dior Grand Award - Dior

On Wednesday April 6, the stars of the event paraded down a bright fuchsia carpet, which stood in stark contrast with the classic red carpet of the traditional film festival that will be held once again in mid-May. The gala closed the action-packed week, which featured a program that included the participation of actress Gillian Anderson, known for her performances in 'The X-Files' and more recently in 'The Crown', and 'Euphoria' star Sydney Sweeney, in addition to presenting 20 television series divided into short and long-form categories competing with one another.

Given the success of television series in recent years, coupled with the rise of its consumption via streaming platforms during the months of confinement, Christian Dior Parfums has extended its commitment on the French Riviera, which until recently only focused on the iconic film festival directed by Thierry Frémaux. The perfume and cosmetics division of the maison provided Canneseries its beauty products and the skills of a selection of its international professional make-up artists. A beauty service was available to a number of celebrities invited to the festival, at the legendary Le Majestic hotel, located opposite the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès which hosted the screenings.

The fashion house was also responsible for naming two of the event’s most prestigious awards. In the long-form series category, the jury chaired by French screenwriter Fanny Herrero and composed of Anne Marivin, Daniel Pemberton, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Sami Outabali and Denis O'Hare awarded the Dior Grand Prize to the Canadian series 'Audrey's Back'. The dramatic comedy created by Guillaume Lambert and Florence Longpré also took home the Special Interpretation Prize.

The "Complètement Lycée" team received the Dior Revelation Award - Dior

The Dior Revelation Award went to Rosalie Vaillancourt for her performance in the Canadian series 'Complètement Lycée', a humorous reinterpretation of teen fiction. Awarded in the short series category, the winner was chosen by a jury led by British novelist and screenwriter Anthony Horowitz and composed of actors Chinenye Ezeudu and Marc Ruchmann.

Among the winners of the competition, the Israeli series 'The Lesson' stood out, which won the awards for best series and interpretation, thanks to the role of young actress Maya Landsmann. The German series 'Souls' won the awards for best music and screenplay and the Belgian tv show "Hacked" was crowned in the short series category.

An artistic alliance with Ingrid Donat

Christian Dior Parfums once again entrusted French artist Ingrid Donat with creating its two trophies, with whom it had already collaborated for its past 'Miss Dior' exhibition. The event featured Donat’s reinterpretation of the iconic perfume bottle of the same name as the exhibition organized around 12 female artists’ vision at the Château de la Colle Noire.

“It’s always a challenge to accept a commission while keeping the identity of my own work. Especially for an object that does not correspond with what I’m used to making,” told the artist to FashionNetwork.com, indicating that she normally works with large, more “primitive”, sculptural works which differ from the “jewelry-only” technique used in producing these awards to give them a more valuable factor.

Trophies made by Ingrid Donat formed the shape of the festival’s initials - Luc Braquet - Dior

Crafted in polished white bronze, the sophisticated totem-shaped 27cm-high awards mirrored an undulating movement, creating the shape of the festival’s 'C.S.' initials, and were subtly decorated with the maison’s signature houndstooth pattern.

“I draw inspiration from everything around me. In my opinion, creating is first and foremost an art of living. Everything can be a source of inspiration,” said the renowned sculpture and furniture artists influenced by the likes of architect and interior designer Armand-Albert Rateau and Austrian symbolist painter Gustav Klimt.

“I try to create works of art that transcend eras, fashion or trends. My relationship with fashion is something very new. I don’t particularly like this term in a temporal sense, but a fashion designer is an artist, like a painter or a sculptor,” reflected the artist, recently fond of television series, on the synergies between the two industries, acknowledging that her relationship with the fashion house is based on a foundation of “mutual trust” that has given her total freedom for this project.

As for Dior’s upcoming schedule, spring is looking busy for the fashion house. In addition to its return to Croisette for the Cannes Film Festival, the brand will hold its first show in South Korea on April 30 for pre-fall 2022 collection already presented in Paris. Furthermore, Kim Jones will showcase his designs at a show in Los Angeles and, before the summer break, the brand will organize its usual haute couture show in Paris as well as for its 2023 cruise collection in an exotic location yet to be revealed.
