Christian Dior makes its way to Mexico

Christian Dior continues its intercontinental journey. With the resumption of post-Covid travel, the LVMH flagship house is returning to long-haul destinations. After taking its cruise collection to Marrakech, Athens and Seville, it put on a show in India last March and is now making its way to Latin America, in Mexico. Creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri will show her women's ready-to-wear pre-collection for spring 2024 in Mexico City on May 20, the brand announced, without revealing the exact location.

"For Maria Grazia Chiuri, each cruise collection is like a dream map, a celebration of the world's skills and cultures. For this unique show, which will be presented in Mexico City, the house wishes to pay tribute to the splendour of Mexico's heritage. Through these exciting dialogues, the creative director will highlight some of the emblematic figures and creativity of this country that has been dear to Dior's heart since the house's beginnings in 1947," the house said in a statement.

This is not the first time that Maria Grazia Chiuri has explored the multifaceted nature of Mexican culture. During a previous cruise collection, -for spring 2019- the designer sought her inspiration from the "escaramuzas", the traditional Mexican horsewomen, and especially from the Charreada, where they compete on horseback in a traditional Mexican petticoat dress. The event was held in the stables of the Chantilly estate in May 2018.

May is a busy month for the fashion world. After the Pucci show on May 4 in Florence and the Chanel show on May 9, Gucci is due to show on May 16, Dior in Mexico on May 20 and Louis Vuitton in Isola Bella on Lake Maggiore on May 24, while Max Mara will show its cruise collection on June 11 in Stockholm.
