Charles Jeffrey Loverboy launches art-music album linked to collection

Charles Jeffrey Loverboy has added music to his list of creative talents with the LVMH Prize-shortlisted designer releasing a debut album, called Neko.

It comes just as the AW22 Art of Noise collection debuts, with the collection also exploring his interest in music and the way it has influenced his work.

The company said that “for Charles Jeffrey, music is tantamount to fashion and visual art in the diverse roster of inspirations feeding his practice. AW22's Art of Noise collection presents a polyphonic love letter to music, riffing on the work of rebel cellist Arthur Russell, alongside countless other influences.”

He’s teamed up with other musicians for the album, writing lyrics and working on production with multidisciplinary artists Robert Fox and Tom Furse, formerly of The Horrors. And the result is a “multi-genre soundscape, oscillating from the classical to the industrial via soaring synths, hypnotic vocals from Fi Moclusky, rapping courtesy of rising star Taliable and strings from Raven Bush”.

The album's title is taken from the Japanese word for cat, pointing “subtly to a feline motif that slinks repeatedly through the Loverboy universe”.

And alongside the album, the collaborative project comes with a music video, called Blast, featuring Charles Jeffrey and Taliable wearing the collection.
