News last week that Chanel’s sales rose in double digits last year was followed by the company saying it would double the size of its global HQ in London’s Mayfair.

Chanel completed a long reorganisation process last autumn that saw the parent company becoming a UK-based corporation and it has now agreed a new 20-year lease in Mayfair.

Property in the neighbourhood has been booming post-pandemic as luxury companies have raced to sign new deals for stores on its most in-demand streets as well as taking extra office space there.

Yahoo News reported that the quintessentially French brand has signed a deal to move from the Time and Life building that it’s occupied since 2018 to number 38 Berkeley Square.

That’s one of London’s most prestigious addresses and the building is the first new one to be constructed on the square in the past two decades.

The building will open next summer but Chanel will only move its teams there from 2025.

Chanel boss Leena Nair said: “London has been an important centre for Chanel for many years and today’s announcement reaffirms our commitment to the UK and to our people. This new global headquarters has been designed to be at the forefront of sustainability, and an inclusive and beautiful working space, supporting Chanel’s future growth ambitions.”
