Chanel debuts beachwear, skiwear collections

Chanel is debuting separate beachwear and skiwear collections this summer, both serving as complete offerings from the French luxury house. While Chanel has unveiled a few swimwear pieces here and there in seasons past, the Paris icon has never developed a full line dedicated to the beach, or for that matter, winter sports, until now. In doing so, Chanel has revealed two new lines: Coco Beach and Coco Neige (Snow).

The capsule collections will allow the brand, helmed by Karl Lagerfeld, to segment its offerings and be more in sync with the seasons, considering the swimwear collection is set to arrive in store from June, at at time -- from July to August -- where luxury boutiques typically stock their winter collections.

"Dedicated to a life by the sea, Coco Beach will only be available at select Chanel stores, those naturally located in seaside locations: Saint Tropez, Monaco, Cannes and Nice for France and Barcelona and Capri for Europe," said Chanel in a statement.

In total, 26 Chanel store locations will receive the collections in cities such as Palm Beach, Santa Fe, Honolulu and Dubai, as well as in countries including Australia, Brazil, Japan, China, Singapore, Turkey and South Korea.

The Coco Beach line includes swimsuits, bikinis, bandannas, terry cloth beach cover-ups, denim pieces, bags and espadrilles. The swimwear comes in black, with a satiny oversized appliqué double-C logo, or with a hand-painted lattice motif, on a pink or red background, which also appears on the accessories.

Coco Neige is made up of outdoorsy, technical pieces such as ski pants, and more casual mountain styles. It will be more widely stocked, coinciding with the launch of Chanel's traditional autumn/winter collection, which arrives in store toward July and August.
