Following in the footsteps of David Beckham, who successfully made the transition from football to fashion with Kent & Curwen, Andy Murray has launched a co-branded tennis performance and lifestyle apparel line with Castore.

This is Murray’s first exploration into the creation of sportswear clothing with a brand, but he knows the premium British sportswear label well. In March, the tennis champion bought an undisclosed stake in Castore, and signed an £8 million deal to be its global ambassador.

In fact, he has been wearing the brand and advising on product innovation during much of this year.

Castore said the new line, which is emblazoned with a newly created logo that combines the Castore wings with ‘AMC’ for Andy Murray Castore, was developed with the British athlete’s input on functionality.

Inspired by late 70s and early 80s sportswear, when tennis clothing was worn as a style item on and off the court, the collection includes both performance and lifestyle pieces. Each product name acknowledges a city where he won a tournament or place with particular meaning to tennis, and all pieces are made from regenerated nylon and recycled yarn.

Murray will wear the collection for all on court activities, starting with the 2019 Davis Cup, and the brand hopes other leading players will follow suit in the future. Offering maximum protection from UV rays and resistance to abrasions, the range advertises Castore’s advanced technical features whilst using eco-friendly fabrics.

Fans of the brand will find the AMC tennis line in the King’s Road store from 12 November or online from 18 November.
