C&A names former Asda boss as chairman

C&A has reshuffled its board of directors. Allan Leighton has been appointed chairman of the group, and Alexander Birken, chief executive officer of Germany’s Otto, will also join the board.

City veteran Allan Leighton is currently chairman of Co-operative Group, and previously served as chairman of Royal Mail in the UK. His impressive career includes CEO roles at Asda and Pandora. Leighton succeeds Martijn Brenninkmeijer as chairman of C&A.

“C&A is one of the most sustainable, reputable and enduring retail brands and I look forward to working with the team to help the business realise its fullest potential,” Allan Leighton said.

Alexander Birken, CEO of the Otto Group, will also become a member of the board of directors.
