The Dutch retailer confirmed in a press release the cutting of 160 jobs at its head office in Düsseldorf, Germany, and of 70 more at its twin location in Vilvoorde, Belgium, in order to "improve its European competitiveness and "build a long-term business outlook."

It is a hard blow for both centres, one of them in charge of C&A's women's collections and the other of men's and children's, with a staff of 1,400 and 570 employees respectively. The decision is reportedly part of the group's current restructuring policy, the object of a €1 billion investment.

A year ago, C&A Europe, whose revenue is close to €6 billion, reorganised its executive committee, reducing it from nine to only six members, as FashionNetwork reported then.

However, the changes will not affect C&A's stores. The chain is actually expected to feature a new retail concept soon, having tested it last year in three of its branches.

C&A operates 2,058 stores worldwide across some twenty countries, and it attracts a global daily footfall of more than 2 million visitors.
