Buyers invited to Myanmar

Published
Jan 16, 2015

The Smart Myanmar Project has invited European retailers and brand representatives to take part in a mission of meetings that will take place in Myanmar in March.

Some twenty companies may take part in the trip: the first ones to sign up by 31 January. The mission is being set up by the German Textile and Fashion Association (Gesamtverband T+M).

The aim of the Smart Myanmar Project is to promote and support the development of a Myanmar clothing industry, with notably a focus on sustainable production. The programme includes training destined for local partners.

In 2014, Myanmar was the recipient of some 5 billion dollars in foreign investments, thus pre-empting the forecasts made for 2015. Also in 2014, the country exported 1.7 billion dollars in clothing, thus doubling the revenue of 2012, according to the Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association.
