The British luxury house said this is Tisci’s first festive campaign, although last year’s Christmas campaign was the first under his leadership following the departure of former creative director Christopher Bailey in March.

Shot by renowned photography duo Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott, this year’s campaign cuts back on grand backdrops, sumptuous colour palettes and Christmas sparkle to focus on interactions and a sense of unity.

“I am connected to the idea of unity, togetherness and challenging the perception of what love is today. This for me is the real spirit of the season,” said  Riccardo Tisci, chief creative officer.

“It’s one of my favourite times of the year – when I can stop, reflect and reconnect with those who make me feel happy and at home, no matter where I am in the world. I loved the idea of bringing together a group of people that have been so supportive of me since I joined Burberry to celebrate my first holiday campaign for the house.”

Led by Carla Bruni, the cast includes English model Fran Summers, brand ambassadors Zhou Dongyu and Yoo Ah-in, Shay, hijabi model Ikram Abdi Omar, Brazilian-born transgender model Lea T, performance artist Boychild and filmmaker Wu Tsang.

English model Cecilia Chancellor, Russia’s Sasha Pivovarova, Marina Morena, Italian singer Mahmood and football player Ruben Loftus-Cheek complete the group.

The campaign centres around a film of the cast dancing to the soundtrack of ‘What Is Love?’ by Deee-Lite. They wear hand-linked embellished chain mail dresses with crystal fringing, puffer coats in submarine prints, leopard print parkas, cashmere scarves with reversible prints and English-fit tuxedos with crystals and velvet ties.
