Established in 1890, the chain is well known in the Yorkshire retail world, with stores in York, Helmsley, Beverley as well as Gainsborough.

According to Retail Design World, the company’s handbag department in York has been given a new look to give more prominence to the new luxury handbag range.

A classic colour palette, clean layout and high-quality materials showcase the vast selection of handbag brands on offer, from top international labels such as DKNY, Guess and Valentino, to premium and luxury British companies including Lulu Guinness and Radley.

The handbags are displayed on merchandising units made of highly-polished stainless steel and ceramic tile, and a dedicated ‘pay and pack’ counter allows sales staff to interact with customers on a more personal level.

The handbag department is an important category for the department store, which also sells clothing, lingerie, homeware and furniture. The new space in the York store was designed by agency EPD.

Browns celebrated the launch of the new handbag department alongside the opening of the revamped Rhodes restaurant inside the store. The company said the launch event enjoyed a “fantastic" turnout on Tuesday evening.
