British designer Christopher Shannon teams up with Zippo

Zippo, the American lighter brand, which has notably produced more than 500 million lighters around the world, has teamed up with Liverpool-born British designer Christopher Shannon for a limited edition collection.

Known for having collaborated with Judy Blame, Kim Jones and William Baker, and for Helmut Lang, the designer, whose men's ready-to-wear brand has existed since 2008, has chosen a 'fun nights' theme, based on archive images by photographer Jason Evans.

The result are deformed illustrations and slogans, "like a memory," explained Christopher Shannon, "and a nod to the exceptional life span of Zippo lighters." Lighters which the designer even considers as being "one of the items of the Holy Trinity that young men carry in their pockets, nestled between their telephone and their house keys."

The limited edition of 300 Zippo x Christopher Shannon lighters are available as of 12 October on the designer's website.
