Camila Batmanghelidjh's Kids Company charity, which helped some of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable children, young people and families in Britain, has had to close due to a lack of funding.

Kids Company has worked with a number of big fashion names in the past, including Stella McCartney, Kate Moss, Charlotte Tilbury and Fendi. Now its 11 street level centres in London and Bristol and its outreach project in Liverpool will close, and its work with schools will also be ending.

Kids Company was mainly funded by donations from individuals, trusts and foundations and by government grants. It said: “It is with the greatest sadness and reluctance that we have reached the decision to close Kids Company. We have been forced to do so because collectively, despite the extraordinary efforts of Camila and her team, some truly enlightened philanthropists and the government, we have not been able to continue."

There have also been allegations of child abuse at the charity, which are being investigated by the Metropolitan Police.
