Brent Cross increases security after Manchester attack

Police at Barnet have increased security procedures at giant North London shopping centre Brent Cross following the devastating terrorist attack in Manchester’s Arena on Monday.

All shoppers were being searched by armed police with dogs upon entry on Wednesday and some car parks were closed, causing long queues for vehicles and pedestrians

“Our security procedures in the centre have been increased in line with advice from the security services, which have moved to raise the national security status to critical following recent events,” said general manager Tom Nathan.

“The safety of our customers and colleagues remains our number one priority. Customers should remain alert but not alarmed, and should report anything suspicious to the police."

The mall, part of Hammerson, houses premium and luxury brands including Fenwick, John Lewis, AllSaints, Jigsaw and Reiss, as well as high street brands like River Island, Topshop and H&M.

The centre informed shoppers on social media and on its website on Thursday about the security measures taking place at the mall. It remains unknown how long the increased security will remain in place.
