Bread&Butter signs up for three winter editions in Barcelona

With Bread&Butter having barely concluded, Karl-Heinz Müller flew to Barcelona. There he held a press conference, sitting next to Felip Puig, the Catalan Minister for Enterprise and Employment, Xavier Trias, Mayor of Barcelona and Agustin Cordon, Director General of Fira.

Local authorities expressed their expectations during the press conference

Müller presented his grand slam of fashion events with Barcelona in January, Berlin in July and finally Seoul in September. Local authorities have reaffirmed their support and said that they would make every effort for Bread & Butter to be a success.

In Berlin, Müller focused on next year’s schedule, while declaring that 2016 has not yet been decided. According to the Spanish press, the German organizers and Fira have signed an initial agreement for three winter editions with hopes for a long-term partnership.

When Bread&Butter returned to Berlin in July 2009, however, he had also announced a ten-year contract with the Tempelhof airport. Only 11 of the 20 seasons have so far been completed. "What’s important in any contract is the exit clause" he responded to one journalist.

"The airport is expensive in winter because of the need for insulation for the central hall, among other expenses," said a source familiar with the situation. "In my opinion, the show will not have to pay rent in Barcelona, and they could rent the space in Berlin out so that no other exhibition takes its place.”

With so many shows moving around, developments will continue to be followed closely.
