Long-established Italian high-end hatmaker Borsalino has strengthened its design office, formalising the appointment of Jacopo Politi as head of style. Politi has been with Borsalino since April, based between Milan and the label’s factory in Alessandria.

Politi’s appointment is part of Borsalino’s relaunch plan, as indicated in a press release by Giacomo Santucci, brand curator and a member of Borsalino's executive committee: “Inspired by the life of founder Giuseppe Borsalino, over the past three years I have redefined the label’s brand positioning by engaging with Millennial and post-Millennial consumers. This starting point, rooted in the recognition of our identity, enables us to advance in our ambitious plans. I am sure that Jacopo Politi will help us continue this journey and further develop the label’s potential.”

Politi was born in Milan in 1978 and graduated from Istituto Marangoni. He was in charge of style at Maison Michel for a long time. Over the years, he has specialised in hatmaking, working with the creative directors of labels like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Fendi, YSL, Lanvin, Balmain and Balenciaga.

Politi, who collaborated with Borsalino from 2009 to 2012, will design the collections of hats and caps in felt, straw and fabric, as well as providing styling guidelines for soft accessories and small leather goods.

“I am honoured to be rejoining the Borsalino family. Contributing to the evolution of the design heritage in a company with more than 160 years of history is an ambitious, stimulating challenge,” said Politi. “Borsalino’s artisanal culture is a great source of inspiration. I can’t wait to develop my vision in order to share this wonderful Italian success story with an ever-growing community,” he added.

The first collection designed by Jacopo Politi as Borsalino’s head of style, for Fall/Winter 2023-24, will debut at Pitti Uomo in January.
