Boohoo Group’s bid to improve its often-under-the-microscope working practices and overall image continues with an important new board appointment.

Kirsty Britz has just joined the UK-based fast-fashion business as a non-executive director, bringing specialist expertise in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) matters. She becomes a member of its Audit and Risk Committees.

Britz is currently the director of Sustainable Banking at NatWest Group and an independent member of the Professional Standards Committee at HMRC. Prior to joining NatWest Group, she held the role of director of Citizenship at Barclays.

Over the last 12 months, Boohoo noted it has “significantly" strengthened its board with three non-executive director appointments, resulting in a board that comprises a majority of independent directors.

“[Britz’s] extensive ESG experience will help ensure the board remains focused on making balanced and sustainable decisions that factor in the impact of our strategy on multiple stakeholder groups”, the group said in a statement.

Britz added: “I look forward to helping the group develop its sustainability approach, embedding it into strategy, governance and operations, and ensuring the board remains focused on building practices fit for a sustainable future”.

Last month, Boohoo announced the publication of its long-awaited international factory list, “meeting its transparency pledge to publish it within 12 months of the Independent Review produced by Alison Levitt QC”.
