Boohoo and Harrods reveal small gender pay gaps

Boohoo, Harrods, Matalan, Primark, Mothercare and Gant have submitted their gender pay figures under new government rules requiring companies with more than 250 staff to reveal their average pay difference between male and female employees.

According to their reports, Boohoo, Primark and Matalan had no difference in what they paid their female and male staff on a median basis.

In terms of mean results, Booho reported a 5.9% difference and Matalan a 13.7% gap. Meanwhile, Harrods reported that it paid its female employees 1% less on a median basis and 4.2% on a mean basis.

Hackett London said its median result was 17.5% in favour for men, while its median rate was 3%. Gant reported a median hourly pay gap of 20.1% and a median of 11.3%.

Across clothing retailers, Mothercare seems to have one of the biggest gender pay gap, with the mean hourly rate for women being 40.6% lower than for men, or 25.3% on a median basis.

Coast was also one of the biggest offenders, revealing it paid male employees 71.05% more than female employees on a mean basis and 40.26% on a median.

The average mean UK gender pay for retail is 16.4%, according to the Office for National Statistics.
