Black Friday fashion discounts high, but electricals win the traffic battle

Fashion retailers in the UK do not seem to be getting the message about their Black Friday and Cyber Monday discounts across strongly enough, a new report shows, with consumers still more focused on electronics on the two key holiday season shopping days.

Fashion discounts are high for Black Friday but the message isn't getting across

HotDealsUK, which is the biggest deal sharing community in Britain, analysed two years of its members' data and found that fashion product is discounted more than electronics but most traffic on the two days is for electricals. And retailers selling interiors products are also also offering higher discount but are not benefitting from such high traffic spikes as electricals.

The company said that fashion products are, on average, 41% cheaper during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping period while electronics come in anywhere from 23% to 38 % cheaper. Products for the home and garden come in 47% cheaper on average.

However, the highest traffic uplift is for computers with a 75% increase, followed by audio-visual (67%) and gaming (66%).

Danny Munday, general manager of HotUKDeals said that fashion product is likely to be heavily discounted this year. “Fashion sales are in decline after seven years of growth so retailers will need to compete – especially online – to attract customers.”
