Barbour to open new flagship as Duke Street proves appealing

Published
May 2, 2018

Barbour is to create a new London flagship store in the North Mayfair area as it relocates to 56 Duke Street, which is part of the Grosvenor estate, and upsizes from its previous location that was less than 1,500 sq ft to one of over 4,000 sq ft.

Opening in late summer, the new store will carry the full range of products from the countryside heritage-inspired Barbour label and from the motorcycle heritage Barbour International label for men, women, children and dogs.

Duke Street has been developing as a more important destination for fashion shopping in recent years as the wider area around the trio of key streets (Oxford, Regent and Bond Streets) has developed and has proved particularly appealing to high-end and niche labels.

Duke Street itself has become an enclave for some of London’s most desirable fashion brands with concept stores such as The Duke Street Emporium and flagship stores for Private White VC and Penelope Chilvers, Meanwhile AMI Paris and E Tautz have also chosen it for their first UK stores.

Barbour’s UK MD for wholesale and retail, Ryan Llewellyn-Pace, said the new store is “an opportunity to showcase the full wardrobe of clothing, footwear and accessories from both of our brands.”

The Duke Street store will also be the first to have a dedicated footwear area including all Barbour and Barbour International pieces from wellingtons through to brogues, loafers and slippers.

Grosvenor’s head of retail leasing, Joanna Lea, said the Barbour signing underscores the landlord’s “renewed focus on retail and the evolution of North Mayfair which, following recent openings, is consolidating its position as an exciting destination for retail and dining.”
