Banana Republic pays homage to Black History Month with a new campaign

Banana Republic is marking Black History Month with a powerful new campaign.

Banana Republic

The fashion label has announced the launch of two ‘BR Presents' films, one featuring the poet, screenwriter and spoken word artist Chinaka Hodge, the other featuring the dancer, movement artist and director Jon Boogz. The films, which are set in the Los Angeles Million Dollar Theatre and center on messages of persistence and hope, will be rolled out online and via the brand's social media channels on February 3.

A new ‘Color-Full' campaign shot by the photographers Koto Bolofo, Melodie McDaniel and Campbell Addy will accompany the films. The images will showcase the brand's Spring 2020 collection, which includes the launch of an inclusive new ‘True Hues' range of nude necessities designed to suit every skin tone.

"This campaign was such a special project for us," said Banana Republic Creative Director, Len Peltier, in a statement. "We were able to collaborate with inspired creatives, whom we've worked with in the past and consider friends, to authentically share our brand ethos through their personal stories and craft as artists during Black History Month."

Banana Republic has been a vocal champion of social equality of late; last year, the label launched its first-ever ‘Equality Collection' alongside the non-profit association CARE, and also re-released its signature ‘Dissent collar' necklace, which was made famous by the iconic women's rights advocate and Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, donating a portion of the profits to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) non-profit Women's Rights Project.
