Running from 17-21 February 2017 at Somerset House, the exhibition forms part of London Fashion Week Festival, and will feature works by international fashion designers from 25 countries in a series of specially-commissioned fashion installations.

The theme of this year's exhibition is Local/Global. Countries have been invited to explore the influence of place on fashion design and style, and to examine how emerging designers can transform their local culture into a global language.

15 rooms will be used for the exhibition, with 14 of them representing a specific country. There will be also one group installation curated by Shonagh Marshall which will feature designers from 10 further nations, as well as a dedicated space for six designers from Mercedes-Benz’s International Designer Exchange Programme.

This will be the first time the IFS is presented and supported by the German automobile manufacturer, which has been involved in the fashion industry for more than 20 years.

“Mercedes-Benz has been a long term partner of the British Fashion Council over different projects and their commitment to supporting emerging talent from all around the world is a great fit with the spirit of IFS,” commented BFC chief executive Caroline Rush.

The event will be also supported by the London College of Fashion, which will help designers prepare with a series of business support seminars. Additionally, the Designer Support Programme will bring together a network of LCF affiliated academics and researchers to offer mentoring opportunities and business development during IFS, while a collaboration with Fashion Scout will offer designers the opportunity to show their work on the catwalk.

Sarah Mann, director of architecture, design and fashion at the British Council hailed the strength of the initiative, which she said provides a “unique opportunity” for emerging fashion designers from all over the world to demonstrate the diversity of global fashion during London Fashion Week.

The IFS has hosted 550 international designers from 70 countries since its inception in 2012.

The event will name a winning Country, Designer and Curator at a prize-giving ceremony during London Fashion Week February, and Mercedes-Benz will additionally present the winning Designer with the unique opportunity to showcase his or her collection at one of the currently more than 50 Mercedes-Benz Fashion platforms.
