Audrey Marnay designs gloves for Causse

Add glove designer to Audrey Marnay’s list of professions; that already includes model, actress and singer.

The French model super star has created a capsule collection of three gloves for Causse Gantier, the 125-year-old high-end glove maker, whose mittens are worn by Karl Lagerfeld.

Besides gracing the cover of Vogue Italia aged just 16, Marnay has starred in campaigns for Valentino, Calvin Klein, Chanel and Versace. She has also acted, appearing in a series of films including George Clooney’s Monument Men and Paris by Cédric Klapisch. And she has interpreted Coco Chanel, and had a career as a singer, notably with Alain Chamfort, with whom she performed the noted song Manureva, about the disappearance of oceanic yachtsman Alain Colas.

For Causse, Marnay created a trio of gloves made of lamb plongé, with cashmere interiors and a vent at the wrist, allowing a lady to wear a watch or bracelet at the same time.

“I was inspired by Audrey Hepburn, one of my style references. I wanted gloves women could wear all day long, even with jewelry; and that they could be used with smart phones,” said Marnay.

The Audrey Marnay x Causse Gantier autum/winter 2108-19 capsule includes driving gloves with Screentouch, made of crocheted silk/cotton yarn and allowing the driver to also take a mobile call. Hopefully not while on the highway.

Founded in 1892 in Millau, the historic capital of the French glove industry, Causse was acquired in 2012 by Paraffection, the Chanel-owned division that groups together a dozen, principally French, luxury suppliers, which provide exceptional skills to the fashion and haute couture industry.
