Asos and Klarna extend pay-later feature for greater flexibility

More and more fashion retailers are adding buy now, pay later options and some of those that have them already are extending the flexibility they offer as they do all they can to encourage consumers to spend online.

Asos

On Monday, Asos and Klarna said they’ve extended their partnership with the e-tailer now offering customers in the UK the option to pay in three monthly instalments, interest and fee-free. The company first introduced pay-later with a 30-day window in which to pay for the goods back in 2017.

Instalment payments have long been a popular option for traditional mail-order retailers and many of the e-tailers that are their natural successors have also embraced the strategy, although the credit terms offered can significantly push the price of goods higher.

But an interest-free pay-later option has been an increasingly popular feature in the past couple of years as firms have had to work ever harder for every transaction.

With Klarna’s Pay in 3, the first payment is made at the point of purchase via either a debit or credit card and the final two payments are automatically scheduled to align with UK customers’ monthly pay cycle at 30 and 60 days respectively.

Klarna said the expansion follows the success of its Pay in 4 option in the US, and builds on the long-standing relationship between it and Asos in Britain.
