Following the appointment of Steph Strike to the role of managing director of the George clothing label in December, Asda has announced it is starting the year with a series of further appointments.

Strike, who was promoted internally to replace Nick Jones, will continue to report directly into CEO Roger Burnley, Asda confirmed this week.

Anna-Maree Shaw is to take on the role of chief customer officer for the business at the end of January, and Helen Selby will join as general counsel and company secretary following Alex Simpson’s departure last year.

Shaw is an expert in digital strategies. She is the managing director of her own company, Customer Dialogue, and has previously held a number of chief marketing roles in Australia as well as in the UK retail market, including at jeweller Michael Hill and Sainsbury’s. She replaces Andy Murray, who is moving back to the US.

Meanwhile, Anthony Hemmerdingerm, currently senior VP of operations, has been promoted to chief operating officer, expanding his remit across technology and property.

Finally, Mark Simpson, who has been with Asda since 1997, will become chief supply chain officer.

Commenting on the board appointment in his message to colleagues, Roger said; “As we kick off 2020 I am very confident that not only do we have the right team in place, but also the right strategy to make sure we can continue to serve our customers and grow our business, not just for this year but beyond.”
