Armani Madison Avenue flagship to get Armani/Casa makeover

The Giorgio Armani boutique at 760 Madison Avenue in New York City is being remodeled to include 19 luxury residences designed by the label's namesake .
A collaboration between the label and commercial property owner SL Green, which has controlled the property since 2012, the redevelopment will transform the four-level,16,000-square-foot flagship into a 97,000-square-foot building. According to a press statement, the finished location will feature a renovated flagship Giorgio Armani retail boutique, and Armani himself will become one of the first residents of the additional 19 living spaces.
New York architecture firm Cookfox will serve as architect on the project and redesign the Upper East Side building, which has served as an Armani flagship since 1996.
The new building will keep the location's original brick and limestone features, while adding "a series of setbacks and outdoor terraces that break up the massing, create definition from the street and provide a visual connection to Central Park," the statement said.
"In the 1980s, when I opened my first Giorgio Armani boutique in Manhattan, I chose this exclusive and refined area because it was perfect for the timeless elegance and attention to detail I wanted to communicate," Armani said. "Today, thirty years later, I still believe this place reflects my philosophy and my aesthetic vision. With this special project, I continue the journey I began over ten years ago with my Armani/Casa Interior Design Studio, through which I look for innovative creative solutions that express my personal concept of luxury and refinement, while respecting the local culture and spirit."
This development marks the latest addition to the designer's list of interior design projects, including the Armani Hotel in Dubai and the Residences by Armani/Casa in Sunny Isles Beach, Miami, which were unveiled in January of 2016.
Construction is expected to begin in 2020 and conclude in 2023.
