The designer announced his departure from the Belgian label via a short statement posted to Instagram.

"Today was my last day at Ann Demeulemeester. From the deepest of my heart, I would like to thank all the teams, I have worked so closely with, over the past 10 years.

"I am particularly proud that, one collection after another, the House of Ann Demeulemeester has embraced some pressing challenges of our society, especially addressing the questions of gender and diversity," he added.

Meunier was born in Versailles, France, in 1974. He graduated from Paris fashion school Esmod in 1997, and won the prestigious fashion prize at the Festival d'Hyères in 1998. In 2000 he launched his own eponymous label, joining Maison Martin Margiela in the same year as a women's knitwear designer.

Meunier was headhunted by Demeulemeester in 2010, and was chosen to replace her as creative head of the label after her retirement in 2013.
