Amazon UK launches home services

Amazon is complementing its sale of home products with new professional assembly and installation services, available for customers in London, Birmingham and Manchester.

Amazon’s Home Services arrive in the UK three years after its official launch in the US in 2015.

The launch enhances the e-tailer’s shopping service, previously limited to taking and delivering orders, by providing customers with home visits from a curated list of tradespeople and service providers to help them with their purchase.

Customers buying more than 4 million products on Amazon.co.uk, ranging from TVs and household appliances to garden furniture and exercise equipment, can now schedule installation or assembly support during checkout.

The company’s ‘Happiness Guarantee’ backs all service purchases, with each service coming with a pre-defined scope of work and upfront pricing. Home Services are expected to roll out in more cities across the UK over time.

The idea of offering at-home services that can complement the shopping experience is also being tested by fashion retailers including Net-a-Porter and MR Porter, which launched at-home shopping consultations for their highest spending customers last year.

Meanwhile, occasionwear brand Galvan offers London and NYC-based customers delivery of online purchases by a sales assistant who can do complimentary fittings.
