Allbirds adds performance apparel for the first time

The importance of health-linked apparel has become clearer with news that Allbirds is adding the category. Allbirds has launched into performance apparel for the firs time with its “nature-powered” collection – Natural Run Apparel.

It said Natural Run Apparel has been designed with premium natural fibres including merino wool and eucalyptus tree. Its Natural Legging is two times more breathable than leading synthetic pairs, it said, adding that “activewear designed to move with you, without going against nature”.

The launch follows the debut of its first-ever performance product, running shoe Tree Dasher.

The company highlighted the performance segment’s dependence on polyester as a major issue for the planet and said the new line has taken two years of development and more than 70 iterations. It meets “industry benchmarks for breathability, sweat-wicking, quick-drying, and comfort stretch”.
And the collection is the “first-ever performance apparel line to be labelled entirely with its Carbon Footprint, ranging from 4.7 kg to 14.5 kg CO2e before being 100% offset to zero”.

The collection consists of five other pieces in addition to the legging — the Natural Bike Short, Natural Run Form Tank, Natural Run Tank and Tee, and Natural Run Short. Sizes start at XS and rise to XXXL.
