UK retail giant JD Sports has linked up with sports leader Adidas and rapper, musician and actor Kano to unearth new talent as part of the UK celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Adidas’s Superstar shoe.

The project is called 3 bar Superstar and has seen Kano stripping the vocals from his track Pan Fried. The three bars symbolise the famous three-stripe Adidas logo and fans are being invited to submit their own three bars to fit the song.

In order for them to do this and to broadcast the results, there’s a mobile-enabled website and a touring recording booth visiting three major UK shopping centres this month. The first booth was at Manchester Arndale at the weekend with one currently operating at Westfield Stratford city (finishing Wednesday) and another appearing at Birmingham Bullring on February 22 and 23.

The winner will be mentored by Kano and will also have a recording session with the rapper.

The aim is to find the new voices of today’s culture, with Kano highlighting the importance of “the role that music can play in terms of giving young people a voice. I was that young kid growing up and interested in music and found that it was a way to express myself.”
