In the highly competitive golf industry, Adidas seems to race ahead. The German sportswear brand announced that its golf division, TaylorMade-adidas Golf would become the leader on the greens.

In the first quarter of 2010, TaylorMade-adidas Golf saw its sales increase by 16% (at a constant exchange rate) to 223 million Euros compared to 194 million Euros which the same period last year reached. 2009 saw TaylorMade-adidas Golf, which was bought by Adidas in 1997, generate a profit of 831 million Euros. Results were strengthened by the acquisition golf clothing specialist Ashworth in 2008.

These two acquisitions have ensured Adidas’ strong performance both in technical equipment and in the clothing market.

Taking global market leadership, TaylorMade-adidas Golf is the number one in terms of sales, bolstered by TaylorMade being the unrivalled market leader in the key golf category - metalwoods - in the world's biggest golf market, North America. In addition, adidas Golf together with Ashworth has become the global market leader in golf apparel. Also golf ball market share at the end of the first quarter 2010 has doubled compared to the prior year.
