The inauguration of 080 Barcelona Fashion took place this Monday the 26th, marking the 20th edition of the event a return to the city’s Recinto Mondernista de Sant Pau, which also hosted 2014’s edition. The fashion week concludes this Friday the 30th and will display the work of 37 designers and brands.

Taking place in the Sant Rafael pavilion, the launch underlines the event’s goal of placing Catalonia as an international reference point for fashion production and design. “Ten years ago the fashion sector was in a low place, and now we’re in the process of recuperating sales and production,” Minister of Enterprise and Knowledge of the Generalitat Jordi Baiget stated optimistically.

Likewise, Baiget indicated that the 20 editions of 080 demonstrate that the event is much more than just a fashion show: “They are runway shows, contacts, missions… a very important activity for the fashion industry.”

For his part, 080 director Miquel Rodríguez says the key to expansion on the runway is found in individual and collective development, adding that “080 is an aspirational point for many of the participants.”

Acknowledging the tradition of the runway as a place for young brands, 080 will show the collections of emerging designers such as Mietis, Jnorig, Colnillo de Morsa, AMT, Maria Roh, Elena Estaun and Gema Sach, without forgetting the event’s commercial aspect. The event will also include the likes of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the men’s brand Mascon, swimwear presentations from Guillermina Baeza, Red Point and Como un Pez en el Agua, and the new project from dancer Rafael Amargo, Amoramargo, and the event’s star presentation from Custo Barcelona.

This edition, which is sponsored by the German e-commerce giant Zalando, will be marked by the rise in men’s fashion, with almost 40 percent of the brand’s including menswear. It will also include a member of the Missoni family as a guest of honor, with Margherita Missoni, from the third generation of the Italian fashion house, leading the talk “The Missoni family: Born into fashion” on Wednesday the 28th.

As a reflection of the event’s commercial interest, 080 will also invite 80 buyers, who will join the other buyers already invited by the designers, to the 080 Barcelona Fashion Showroom, which opens on Wednesday the 28th. While 50 of them hail from Spain, the remaining 30 come from the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Denmark, Colombia, Japan, Singapore, as well as representatives from the international Asian market.
